This makes the carpenter’s job difficult, since not only do they have perfect their craft, they also have to somehow pick on the psychology and dark art of interpreting their client’s scribbles and grunts into something that is both aesthetically pleasing and practical to them.

The client wanted a fancy bookshelf, but wanted to see what it would look like before they ordered it; a good trick if you can do it.
